In the Fuggerei Augsburg, the oldest social settlement in the world, 150 people live in the 140 apartments of the 67 houses. The aim of the administration of the Fürstlich und Gräflich Fuggersche Foundation was to establish a maintenance-free, economically and ecologically sustainable heat supply for the listed building ensemble.

The Fuggerei was donated by Jakob Fugger "the Rich" in 1521 and is the oldest existing social settlement in the world. Today around 150 needy Catholic citizens of Augsburg live in the 140 apartments of the 67 houses.
