Micro Gas Turbine

Micro gas turbines are small gas turbines. They were developed in particular for use in decentralised energy supply in the power range up to 200 kWel. A compact design and high speeds are typical. They can be operated with natural gas, biogas and liquid fuels, for example.

Is a micro gas turbine also interesting for me?

The use of this technology for the combined generation of electricity and heat (CHP) is ideal wherever the heat from the turbine exhaust gas can be utilised directly (e.g. for drying processes or as combustion air for steam boilers).

In these applications, the use of a microturbine can help to significantly reduce the cost of providing electricity and heat. Around 30 % of the fuel energy input is converted into electrical energy. Around 66 % of the fuel energy is available in the form of thermal energy in the exhaust gas flow.

The heat is available at a high temperature level in the form of hot gas (280 °C to 310 °C) and can be used directly for drying processes or as combustion air for steam boilers.

Combination with conventional power generation plants

A special application is combustion air preheating for a steam boiler. Here, the exhaust gas from the microturbine is used directly as combustion air for the downstream steam boiler. The exhaust gas flow is fed as combustion air to the steam boiler, which is equipped with a special gas turbine exhaust gas burner or converted natural gas burner. This is possible due to the high excess air in the gas turbine combustion. The thermal energy generated in the micro gas turbine combined heat and power plant is optimally utilised by the downstream steam boiler.

What can we do for you?

To ensure economical operation, it is important to analyse the heat/steam requirement and use this as a basis for optimally dimensioning the system.

We will be happy to assess whether the use of a microturbine to cover your heat and electricity requirements is of interest, taking your framework conditions into account. We support you from the feasibility analysis through project planning and approval to implementation.
