Biomass CHP plants

In biomass cogeneration plants, electricity and heat are generated using processes similar to those used in fossil-fuelled power plants. The fuel used here is usually solid biomass such as wood chips or pellets. The heat is utilised either as local or district heating or as process heat (e.g. for drying).

Is the use of biomass also interesting for me?

The provision of heating, cooling and electricity from biogenic fuels helps to reduce CO2 emissions in the atmosphere and contributes directly to climate protection. This makes such projects interesting in the context of CO2-neutral production.

It is not the technical feasibility of such plants, but the correct dimensioning and provision of the appropriate fuel ranges that are the key factors for economic success.

Biomass CHP plants

CHP plants are combined heat and power (CHP) plants. This means that they generate electricity and heat in a single plant. They are fuelled with oil, natural gas or coal as well as biogenic fuels.

If wood, vegetable oil or other biogenic fuels are used, they are referred to as biomass CHP plants.

OPTIMISATION OF BIOMASS COGENERATION PLANTS

What was optimal yesterday no longer has to fit today. The economic situation of your biomass plants may have deteriorated due to a shift in the energy industry framework conditions. From our experience, however, we can show you ways to counteract this.

You will receive an interdisciplinary and manufacturer-independent analysis of your overall system. Our experts will independently assess your cost situation and make a cost comparison with similar projects. You receive an analysis of the future viability of your system.

We are also happy to provide you with long-term support.

HOW DO WE PROCEED WITH THE OPTIMISATION

  • Potential analysis

In the search for optimisation and savings potential, we examine your fuel and operating costs, look for avoidable energy losses and check the technology for its future viability in line with your current and future goals.

  • Benchmark

We analyse and compare your biomass plant with other projects (benchmark). We analyse and calculate supplementary or alternative generation technologies.

  • Fuel procurement concepts

Based on market studies on fuel availability and potential, we develop customised fuel procurement concepts for a permanent reduction in procurement costs.

  • Development of independent controlling

We support you in setting up an independent controlling system. This allows you to keep an eye on your costs and any deviations at all times. Or you can outsource your controlling to us!

What can we do for you?

eta Energieberatung has many years of experience in the design of systems fuelled by biomass or other renewable energy sources. Engineering expertise, interdisciplinary planning and the utilisation of synergy effects are essential prerequisites for the efficient operation of a plant.

Our activities in this business field include

  • Concept development and feasibility studies for pelletising and briquetting plants, drying systems, wood chip production, torrefaction, carbonisation plants and biomass-fired combined heat and power plants
  • Neutral selection of system providers
  • Handling of all planning phases up to successful handover
  • Comprehensive support with special reports, authorisations and discussions with authorities
  • Energy and economic optimisation from the start of the project to the finished, running system
  • Financing and financial counselling and
  • Evaluation reports

Selected projects

We have developed concepts for biogenic heat generation for these customers and in many cases supported them through to implementation.

Let us help you to realize your concepts

We would be happy to help you solving your questions on the use of biomass and on the planning and optimization of biomass heating plants.
