District Concepts

Many local authorities are currently faced with the task of converting former industrial estates into residential areas. This requires well-founded concepts, so-called neighbourhood concepts. A large number of issues need to be considered. One important point is the energy supply of such new residential areas. By developing different supply options, these can be compared with each other. This then forms the basis for an ecologically and economically sustainable decision.

District Concepts

A major step towards the energy transition could be achieved through the consistent energy-efficient refurbishment of existing buildings. In order to successfully increase the refurbishment rate, a well thought-out integrated energy district concept is required.

Densely built-up residential areas in particular can be supplied more efficiently through shared heating networks than if each property operates its own heating system. District heating networks can also be used to supply urban areas with renewable energy that do not have sufficient space.

What is the goal?

The objectives of district concepts can be very different. Often, however, the aim is to develop, evaluate and compare different heat supply options.

The first step is to determine the heat demand on the basis of the draft plans and literature values. The potential heat demand of the area to be realised is estimated using the building standard specified by the client.

A load profile simulation is then carried out on a daily value basis (using typical consumption profiles). The maximum required peak output can be read from the annual load curve diagrams and ordered annual duration curves.

Various centralised and decentralised supply variants are developed on the basis of the heat consumption determined in this way.

It makes sense to take a detailed look at the profitability of the analysed variants on the basis of an annual full cost analysis. On this basis, a liquidity analysis with possible loans and subsidies can be carried out and EBITDA, EBIT, EBT and net income can be shown.

The final energy consumption of the variants is calculated on the basis of the calculated main and auxiliary energy consumption and the energy sources used. Based on this, the CO2 emissions were calculated.

Your Benefit

The results of the energy concept drawn up by eta Energieberatung can be used to compare different heat supply options for the new residential neighbourhood. This then forms the basis for an ecologically and economically sustainable decision.
